Taylor Norris, CEO at Custom Air Products & Services, Inc. (CAPS), recognized Mary Alenbratt, CAPS business analyst, for taking 1st place in her age group in the Mammoth Lake Sprint Triathlon. CAPS is a leading commercial and industrial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) company headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Taylor Norris, CEO Custom Air Products & Services, Inc. (CAPS), today congratulated CAPS employee Mary Alenbratt for taking first place in her age division, 20-29 years old, in the Inaugural Mammoth Lake Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, October 3, 2015.

“Promoting health and wellness among our employees benefits our company, our customers, and our communities,” said Taylor Norris, CAPS chief executive officer. “The triathlon is a test of endurance for athletes and we are proud of Mary’s participation, and achievement, in this event.”

The Mammoth Lake Triathlon is held each year in Lake Jackson, TX, and consists of three different events. The Olympic Distance Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon, and Youth Splash ‘N Dash. Mary competed in the Sprint Triathlon, a physically demanding race consisting of a 500 meter swim, followed by a 12.5 mile bike ride, and concluding with a 3.1 mile run.

“The weather was perfect for this event,” explained Mary. “Although the morning temperature was a little on the chilly side, the lake temperature was around 80 degrees, just right for the first leg of the race.”

Recently promoted to Business Analyst at CAPS, Alenbratt has excelled in a number of areas including company, professional, and personal. She performs in a number of support roles at CAPS, serves as a board member and director in the Swedish-American Chambers of Commerce (SACC) Texas Young Professionals, serves as vice president in the Swedish Women Educational Association (SWEA) chapter in Houston, and regularly competes in local sporting events.

“We like it when our employees participate in activities that encourage healthy living,” stated Vice President David Wasson, “but Mary regularly takes this to a whole new level. Not only did she complete this course at the head of her group but she also recently performed so well in the Chevron Houston Marathon that she qualified to participate in the next Boston Marathon. CAPS is looking forward to sponsoring her effort at that prestigious event in the spring.”

Mary Alenbratt serves as an example in the company, and in the community, of a young professional business woman striving to make a difference. “We are extremely proud of all of Mary’s achievements,” pointed out Norris, “but more than that, we feel lucky to have her on the CAPS team.”

Custom Air Products & Services’ Systems Analyst Earns Ph.D.

Taylor Norris, CEO Custom Air Products & Services, Inc. (CAPS), today announced that Bea Amaya has successfully earned her Ph.D. in Technical Communication and Rhetoric. CAPS is a leading commercial and industrial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) company headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Houston, TX (PRWeb) September 18, 2015 — Taylor Norris, CEO Custom Air Products & Services, Inc. (CAPS), today announced that CAPS Systems Analyst, Bea Amaya, has successfully defended her dissertation and has completed all the requirements for earning her Ph.D. in Technical Communication and Rhetoric.

150921-Bea-01Amaya has worked for CAPS on several occasions, first as a part-time contractor and later as a full-time employee. At the end of the summer of 2014 she took a one-year leave of absence from the company to accept a teaching role at Texas A&M University at Qatar while working on completing her dissertation. “Most people who earn their Ph.D. are, or are destined to become, university faculty,” Bea explained, “but I had no such experience. When the opportunity came up to work at a prestigious university in the Middle East for a short term, I knew it might be my only chance to do so. Teaching was a wonderful, rewarding experience and I wouldn’t have missed that experience for anything. But my roots, my experience, and my expertise are all in industry, so here I am again, back at CAPS, and doing what I know and love.”

A Technical Communicator by training in a Systems Analyst position at CAPS, Amaya focuses her work on designing data management tools and on converting raw data into clear, concise, and useful information for management, division managers, salesmen, customers, and others to use in making sound business decisions.

“We are very excited to have Bea back home and working with us here at CAPS again,” said CEO Taylor Norris. “We have a lot of incredibly talented people in our organization but, as an organization, have not always done the best job of sharing our knowledge with the industry and other interested parties. We are really excited about having Dr. Amaya in a position to help us further develop our technical communications strategies. This will result in CAPS doing more to contribute to the growth and development of our industry, the growth and improvement of our organization, and to provide real value to our customers by helping them make more informed and better business decisions relating to the products and services we offer.”

In addition to company communication developments, Bea hopes to pursue some article publications and conference presentations that combine her academic training and her industry experience, focusing on topics of organizational communication, data analysis, data visualization, technical communication, and organizational/strategic group theories in the near future.

“I’m really glad to have achieved this personal goal,” pointed out Dr. Amaya, “but I’m also excited about using what I’ve learned to find new ways to exert a positive impact on our business. And merging my academic training, my industrial experience, and the opportunities provided by CAPS seems like a perfect place to start.”

Jamie Overaitis

Taylor Norris, CEO of Custom Air Products & Services, Inc. (CAPS), today announced that Brad Chaykoski has been promoted to General Manager and Jamie Overaitis to General Superintendent, both in the Mechanical Field Services Division.

In announcing these promotions, Norris said, “Brad and Jamie have both been a key part of the growth, development, and success of the division. As General Manager, Brad is now in a position not only to provide strategic leadership and guidance, but also to be the primary interface between this division’s activities and those of the rest of the company. As General Superintendent, Jamie’s new role allows him to maintain strong field leadership as well as to ensure manpower and field work activities are organized, coordinated, and focused on maximizing benefits to our customers.”

Brad joined CAPS in June 1999 and has served in a number of roles throughout the company over the years. His knowledge of the challenges faced by field technicians and his experience in interfacing with customers and vendors, combined with his knowledge of organizational needs and processes, make him particularly suited for this leadership role. As General Manager of the division, Brad will be able to put his knowledge and experience to use in driving the division toward meeting company goals and contributing to its further successes.

Jamie joined CAPS in June 2006 and has worked in roles that have helped him grow and develop into a strong leader while contributing not only his knowledge and expertise in the field, but also his strong work ethic and teamwork focus in the process. Serving in the General Superintendent role will enable him to share these strengths in a way that will support the division’s goals, but also that will serve to develop others into more effective and efficient technicians with a strong focus on meeting customer needs.

CAPS President John Boger explained, “We are always on the lookout for good talent in the industry and are definitely open to hiring this talent on a regular basis. But when we are able to promote from within and reward those who have contributed to CAPS’ success over the years, well, that’s a particularly rewarding experience for us.”

Alicia Scott

Wednesday, Custom Air Products & Services (CAPS) promoted Alicia Scott, a six-year employee, to the position of Human Resource/Payroll Administrator.

Ms. Scott is a valuable team member working in several positions during her six-year tenure at CAPS. She has served as Receptionist, Mechanical Field Service (MFS) Administrator, Corporate Accounts Payable and Corporate Accounts Receivable Specialist. According to CEO Taylor Norris, “in each role Ms. Scott has excelled and proved to be a valuable asset to the entire organization”. In her new role, Ms. Scott will be handling the Human Resources duties and responsibilities for the company with over 250 employees. Norris knows the task is large, but is confident Ms. Scott will meet and exceed the expectations as she has previously done in the past.

CAPS is a strong believer in promoting from within the company. “CAPS always makes an effort to promote from within when the opportunity arises. This is one of those opportunities,” Norris said.

Join us in congratulating Alicia Scott!

Tony Flores JUMP! SHOUT! Tandem Skydive Fundraiser

Posted on

While most everyone in this company enjoys having their feet planted safely on the ground, CAPS’ very own Tony Flores (Fabrication department) prefers to fly high! Flores was one of the two hundred and eighty six tandem skydivers this past Saturday September 27, 2014 who participated in the JUMP! SHOUT! Tandem Skydive at Skydive Spaceland in Rosharon, Texas. These skydivers broke records with the new World Record Attempt of most tandem jumps in 24 hours in one location (with the previous record being 251).

Hundreds suited up from sunrise to sunset for a great cause, raising money for the Children’s Cancer Recovery Foundation. When a jumper raised $300 their skydive was free and $500 got you a free jump and a video to share with everyone you know.

Above is Tony’s video of what some might think is an insane act of fearlessness, but we see it as a huge act of kindness. Great job Tony!

Down on the Bayou

Now for part 2 of CAPS weekend extravaganza! A few employees returned to their roots for a couple of days of good food and good fun:

Friday AND Saturday, CAPS went down to Lute’s Marina to participate in the 2014 Chocolate Bayou Fish Bowl. CAPS signed up both a cooking team (CAPS Cookers) and a fishing team (CAPS Hookers), and yet again, came home with great awards!

Our cooking team entered Sea Food (Chef’s Choice) and Margaritas Friday Night, and fajitas, beans, chicken, ribs, and brisket all (are you salivating yet?) on Saturday. Being asked to work this Saturday meant taking pictures and eating as much BBQ as my body could handle…being the marketing girl definitely has its perks!

After a long day on the water, our fisherman returned with two great looking trout. They were SO great, in fact, that we could only enter one fish in to be weighed! Apparently you can’t win first and second place…

The event raised funds for the Masonic Lodge of Danbury through sponsorships, team entries, an auction (items from home decor to hog hunting trips were up for grabs) , and one heck of a raffle (a Yeti Cooler full of alcohol and gift cards!). While I personally came home empty handed, a few of our gentlemen came home with flounder-shaped floor mats and a visor from Lute’s Marina (yes, we all got a good chuckle out of this).

Quite a few employees are from this area, so it was great to give back to a place that had given so much to them. Always making us proud boys!

Weekend “Warriors”

This past weekend was a busy one here at CAPS! There were two events that CAPS not only sponsored, but actively participated (and WON) in. Giving back is something that is very important to our company culture, and so is having some a lot of fun. Make sure to check back to see the second event but first:

Friday, June 27 was the United Rentals Bay Run Fishing Tournament down in San Leon to support the Wounded Warriors Project. CAPS was an official tournament sponsor for the event and our own Dave Wasson was entered in the fishing tournament. The event consisted of a sponsorship dinner Thursday night at Top Water Grill and the fisherman’s check in at 6:00 the next morning. New to the tournament this year was the Silent Auction, where participants were allowed to bid to fish with a member of the United Rentals management. All of the proceeds raised went directly to the Wounded Warrior Project. CAPS chose to participate and we won Jason Rose, District Manager of HVAC and Power. Wasson and Rose have been friends for quite some time, so this dynamic duo might have reason to do with the great luck on the water.

After a long day out on the water, Wasson came home with a winning catch! He took home the “First Place Redfish” weighing in at 7 lbs and 80z, at 27 3/4 inches! The contest had a different first place winner until Wasson returned with only 15 minutes to spare!

This event benefited the Wounded Warrior Project. The goal of the project is to “make a positive, lasting impact on the lives of injured service members on a number of levels.” They do this through raising awareness and enlisting the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members, supporting injured servicemen and women, and providing unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. The three main ways you can lend support include: donate, host an event (much like United Rentals), or volunteer. CAPS could not be more proud to give back to an organization that does so much for others. More information about The Wounded Warrior Project can be found at http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Thank you, United Rentals, for such a great time!!
